A good preparation for pregnancy was important to me

  • It was important to Rosanna to be as well prepared as possible for a pregnancy, should this wish be fulfilled

Rosanna has been living with diabetes since 2010. After 14 years, she switched from MDI therapy to myLoop because she wanted to have children. Being prepared for pregnancy made Rosanna and her partner feel ready for parenthood.

Although Rosanna says that a pregnancy cannot be planned per se, she still feels switching to myLoop in the pre-pregnancy phase was the right move for her. Becoming familiar with the system, as well as achieving more stable glucose levels, prepared her for the future.

‘‘I am glad that pregnancy is possible and that it is easier to manage and enjoy it with myLoop. The psychological burden of managing diabetes even before getting pregnant often goes unnoticed. But it is huge.’’

    Rosanna's switch to myLoop

Just the idea of changing her previous therapy turned her stomach. Rosanna was certain that she would switch back to the pen after a pregnancy. The support from her medical team was there right from the start, even though it was a learning process for everyone, as the algorithm was still relatively new.

‘‘The switch was much easier for me and, above all, went much faster than I thought it would. I do not want to switch to the pen anymore either’’

    Planning for pregnancy

Rosanna achieved her pre-pregnancy glucose goals with minimal changes to her daily diabetes management. From time to time, she made small adjustments to her CamAPS FX app settings to further optimise her glucose levels.

‘‘The algorithm alone manages to keep me mostly stable in the desired target ranges’’

When she found out she was pregnant, her healthcare team adjusted her target range and shortened the intervals between appointments. Step by step, the weight, insulin-carbohydrate factor and other parameters were adjusted regularly.

‘‘The brilliant thing is that the target range can be set very low and I have still little or no hypoglycaemia. My nights in particular run very smoothly.’’

Watch Rosanna talk about planning her pregnancy and what advice she would give to those planning to get pregnant.
